Hackathon Fall 2021.jpg

Space is the ultimate food desert – what we learn to feed humans that journey into orbit, to our moon, to Mars, or behind can be translated to solve food access, security, and sustainability issues on Earth.

The 2021 Space for Food Student Hackathon is an opportunity for students and talent already in their careers to:

  • Explore emerging innovations like vertical and indoor farming (also known as CEA or Controlled Environment Ag), cellular and microbial ag like alternative proteins and animal-free dairy, regenerative and terraforming tech like harvesting oxygen on Mars or re-using water to conserve it, and more.

  • Learn how space tech can be adapted for Earth, and Earthbound tech adapted for space exploration and settlement in an exciting, challenge-based program.

  • Meet peers and others to build relationships that will guide and support career paths.

  • Get recognition.

  • Have fun collaborating with bright and ambitious people.

The 2021 Space for Food Student Hackathon will be held in the fall of 2021.

The Hackathon is open to all students, high school through college and entry is free. You can participate from anywhere in the world, although all programming will be delivered in English and in the Central US Time Zone. Those beyond college can also participate as volunteers, mentors, or Subject Matter Experts.
